    Moderation system

This website is moderated by its participants. The system works as follows:

    • After posting you get a token.

    • Any post created in the previous hour or voted within an hour can be voted on with your token.

    • Once the number of votes reaches the spam (aka nuke) threshold the post is moved to spam.

    • If the number of votes does not reach the threshold within an hour of the last vote the post will remain.

    • If you manage to delete the first post of a thread then the entire thread is deleted.

    • The decision threshold is determined as max(3,13#{active tokens}).

    • If you need tokens to nuke a specific post click "Meta" next to the post. In Meta you can post your reason for voting for removal. You can also try to convince others to keep the post.

    • If there is no "Meta" button the post cannot be nuked. Too late!

    • Once you vote to nuke a post in a thread the thread is bumped to the top with a "[nuke]" message in front.

    • If you post in a thread without casting a vote the "[nuke]" text is removed.

    • All posts moved to spam in the last 24 hours are available in the spam bucket at the bottom of the homepage.

    Privacy

Logs are not kept during normal operations. If the website is under attack logs can be temporarily activated. The website does not use any external tracking services such as Google Analytics, Google Captcha, etc. By default all cookies are temporary and deleted when the browser session is closed.

Can we only have the "[nuke]" message in front for threads whose original post has been voted on to nuke? It would help separate actual good quality threads from the rest.

Can we rate-limit thread creation? Say, no more than one every 30 minutes? We have nutters who are spamming low-content threads (probably Unzicker again) and it's hard to keep up. It's not an ironclad fix but it might be enough of a hassle to get them to knock it off.

^ I can adjust the rate limiting based on whether a thread is nuked. For example, if a thread is nuked in the last two hours then its author isn't able to create new threads for two hours following the nuking and his posting limit is diminished to 5 posts per hour for the next two hours.

Might be good to replace the “report” button pop-up with something that takes a confirmation (“do you want to report?”) Otherwise it’s pretty easy to accidentally hit that button while scrolling.

Now that the number of threads has grown significantly, a search function might be useful (at least for the thread title if not texts of individual posts within a thread).

Can we have a thread next to the spam bucket where people can suggest addresses that should be unblocked? While I understand the rationale behind the current policy (and I don't want YouTube links here as well), I think that it's way too restrictive in its current form. For a start, I would allow any address that has 'edu' or 'ac' in it (how are we supposed to gossip about people if we can't even add a link to their website?).

Absolutely do not allow links to someone's academic website, that's a great way to get IP addresses harvested.
