The nuker claims this is boring culture war stuff. But clearly it's not about culture wars if these mandates are repealed in Europe. What gives.
There does seem to be a culture war aspect to this in the US. When I go to conferences, those on the left (and to a lesser degree, on the right) from the US very clearly stand out.
Please explain how this is relevant to mathematics, as opposed to any other university major.

It's relevant in the same way that DEI is relevant. It creates a less diverse environment.

The absurd thing is that after the first month or two, the two sides suddenly switched position in this particular battle. Early on, anyone who was worried about COVID was just racist against Chinese people. Then anyone who wasn’t worried about it was some kind of white supremacist Christian nationalist troglodyte.
